North Putnam downs Mustangs in five games

BAINBRIDGE -- The North Putnam volleyball team defeated Fountain Central in five games Monday night. The Cougars won 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-9.

"Although we did not have our best night, we found a way to pull out a win," head coach Michelle Spencer said.

The Cougars lost the first two games of the match and stood on the brink of defeat, but dug in and won the remaining three games.

Kacy Wendling collected 27 assists, two kills and two digs, while Taylor Alles added 12 digs, 10 kills, three solo blocks, one assist block and one ace.

Ashley Doyle recorded 15 digs and six kills with Logan Doyle adding 11 digs, five kills and one assist block. Kayla Green had 12 digs, six kills, three aces and one assist block and Carlye McGaughey finished with 13 digs, seven kills, one ace and one assist block.

"It is nice to see good even in the adversity. By the end of the match, I finally saw some of the exciting team I know we can be.

"The last five points were terrific to watch," Spencer added.

North Putnam's junior varsity also won, winning 25-17 and 25-24.

The Cougars will travel to Southmont at 6 p.m. Thursday.
