George W. Minkler, 88, Greencastle, died Saturday.

Born in Coxsakie, N.Y., he was the son of Lester and Pearl (Harris) Minkler.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he earned a battle star in France and Germany. He was a graduate of Cornwall on the Hudson High School and Purdue University. He was a charter member of Poland Volunteer Fire Dept., serves as a trustee and moderator at Big Walnut Baptist Church, and retired from farming after 40 years.

He married Freda E. Minkler on June 9, 1973. She survives.

Also surviving are son Robert Minkler, Mobile, Ala., stepson Gerald W. Nelson and wife Bev, Greencastle; stepdaughters Carolyne Sharp and husband Gerald "Bud", and Sharon Dunn and husband Rex, all of Greencastle, and Diane Osborne and husband Gary, Crystal River, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Marjorie Kay Minkler, brother Robert Minkler and sister Dorothy Fredrickson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev Mike Goss officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
