Sheriff's Dept.

Several accidents were investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

• At 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, a 2002 Honda CRV struck a deer on U.S. 36 near Russellville.

Deputy Gary Boler reported that Richard Sabolick, Waveland, was driving when a large deer ran into the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting the animal.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-10,000.

• At 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, a car hit a deer on U.S. 231 near CR 350 North.

Deputy Craig Sibbitt reported that Lloyd Fortune, Greencastle, was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi northbound when the deer ran into the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting the animal.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

• At 8:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, two cars sideswiped each other on CR 500 West near CR 950 South.

Deputy Don Lewis reported that Jasper Hill, Indianapolis, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala, was southbound on 500 West when she met a 1994 Chevrolet Beretta, driven by Corey Leroy, Reelsville, and heading northbound. The two vehicles sideswiped each other in a curve in the road.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

• At 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, a car hit a deer on U.S. 231 at CR 1300 South.

Deputy Tom Helmer reported that Clara Adams, Rensselaer, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban northbound when the deer ran into the roadway and she was unable to avoid the collision.

Damage was estimated at $750-1,000.

Putnam County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

• Benjamin David Ferris, 34, Fillmore, was booked in at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday on a petition to revoke bond. He was arrested at PCJ.

• Zachary Jacob Eaglin, 20, Gosport, was booked in at 4:44 p.m. Monday on a petition to revoke probation. He was arrested by Greencastle Officers Ed Wilson and Darrel Bunten.

• Andrew Douglas O'Hair, 19, Greencastle, was booked in at 7:51 p.m. Monday for receiving stolen property. He was arrested by GPD Officer Wilson.

• Ross Williams, 20, Greencastle, was booked in at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. He was arrested by DePauw Officer Rick Keller.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to several runs recently.

On Tuesday:

• At 3:30 a.m., firefighters were called to 2601 E. State Road 240 for a fire alarm. They received a disregard before they left the station and were back on base at 3:32 a.m.

• At 5:18 p.m., crews responded to 504 E. Seminary Street for a fire alarm. They found not problem and returned at 5:33 p.m.

• At 7:06 p.m., firefighters were called to 702 E. Seminary St. for a care fire. They received a disregard and were backed at 7:08 p.m.

On Wednesday:

• At 9:23 a.m., crews were called to the 32 mile marker of Interstate 70 West to assist Reelsville and Cloverdale township firefighters with a vehicle crash with injury. They returned at 10:38 a.m.

• At 9:35 a.m., firefighters were called to 215 Wood St. Apt. 5 for a lift assist. They received a disregard and were back on base at 9:38 a.m.

• At 3:55 p.m., crews were dispatched to 1109 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. They received a disregard and were back at 3:57 p.m.
