Daniel H. Hanna, 84, Greencastle, emeritus director of bands and emeritus professor in the school of music education at DePauw University, died Tuesday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Samuel T. and Lillian (Daniel) Hanna.

He graduated from Greencastle High School in 1940. During WWII he was a member of the 624th Air Force Band. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from DePauw in 1947 and 1948.

He taught instrumental music in the public schools of Andalusia, Ala., from 1948-before returning to DePauw. He was past president of the Indiana Bandmasters' Association and a member of various professional organizations. He was a member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.

On April 5, 1947, he married Virginia Walbring, and she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Stephen Hanna and wife Marjorie, Indianapolis, and Sandra Liston and husband John, Downers Grove, Ill.; a sister, Lila Manhart and husband Joe, North Muskegon, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. P.T. Wilson officiating. A private family burial will at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
