Charles William Ullrich

Charles William Ullrich Sr., 86, Greencastle, died Friday.

Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Dr. Arlie John and Kathleen Commons Ullrich.

He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., class of 1944. Ullrich was a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retiring in 1964 after 20 years of service.

He was also employed with Allison Division of General Motors.

He married Marian Riggs on Nov. 27, 1993 in Greencastle, and she survives. His first wife, Dorothy A. Kernel Ullrich preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Cathedral High School Alumni Association, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Greencastle Senior Citizens. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He had attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle.

Additional survivors include children Charles William Ullrich Jr., Karl J. Ullrich, Karen U. Houle, Stephen P. Ullrich, Jane M. Gorwin and Michael G. Ullrich, a brother, James Ullrich; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mary Queen of Peace Church in Danville with inurnment at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with rosary service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor or Alzheimer's Association.
