Greencastle loses to Athenians

The Greencastle girls' basketball team ran into a quick and powerful Crawfordsville squad Tuesday night. The Tiger Cubs lost to Crawfordsville 71-30.

"Bottom line is, they got up on us and we didn't handle it very well. They were very tough man-to-man defensively. We didn't shoot well; we turned the ball over too much. We had 18 turnovers the first half," GHS head coach Glen Hile said.

Greencastle trailed the Athenians 18-6 at the end of one. After putting together an 11-point second quarter, the Tiger Cubs trailed 35-17 at the half.

Greencastle was outscored 36-13 in the second half. GHS committed 32 turnovers in the game.

Hannah Spencer led GHS with 10 points, followed by Becky Grivas with eight. Olivia Miller, Kelsey Hennette and Mallory Miller each scored four points.

"They shot extremely well," Hile commented. "We didn't have an answer for that. A better team outmanned us this evening. They're quick and they're big and we didn't have much we could do.

"They put a little twist in their offense then we didn't make very good adjustments to until it was too late," he concluded.

Greencastle will host Tri-West at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
