Born in Brazil, he was the son of Harold and Donita (Summers) Hoopingarner.
A 1949 graduate of Brazil High School, he had been a tool and die maker, working at area companies including IBM Corp., Standard Die, ideal Engineering, and Hancor.
He married Jeannine Ewing in Greencastle on Aug. 25, 1950. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steve Hoopingarner, Greencastle, and Bruce hoopingarner and wife Annette, Brazil; two daughers, Rhonda Louderback and husband Rick, and Ann Hoopingarner, all of Brazil; sister Patricia Ewing, Greencastle; brother Harold Hoopingarner and wife Marion, Indianapolis; four grandchildren and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Moore Funeral Home, Brazil, was chosen to provide cremation services.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calcutta Cemetery.
