Greg A. Richard, 54, Danville, died Sunday at Hendricks Regional Health, Danville.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of David and Wilma Scobee Richard. He married Jenny Summers on June 15, 1975 in Bainbridge, and she survives.

He was a 1971 graduate of North Putnam High School and later attended Vincennes University. He began his law enforcement career working at the governor's mansion as a security guard during Gov. Otis Bowen's term. He then worked as a security guard and courier for Cinergy for 27 years, retiring in 2004. Upon retirement, he became a detective for the Danville Police Department, where he had worked part-time for since June of 1977.

He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Bainbridge Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Police. He also helped coach the Danville High School freshman football team for many years.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Breanna Richard, Danville; a son, Kyle Richard, West Lafayette; his parents, Greencastle; and a brother, Gary Richard, Brighton, Mich.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Danville United Methodist Church, 820 W. Mill St., Danville. Burial will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
