Born in Austin, Ind., he was the son of Virgil and Bonnie E. (Swango) Stepp.
He had been an inspector at GM Truck and Bus Division for 42 years, and a reserve Plainfield police officer.
He had also worked three years at Webco as a machinist.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Spegal Stepp; sons David, Rich and Randy Stepp, all of Indianapolis; stepdaughter Tanya Paz, Indianapolis; sisters Mary Hessler, Stilesville, and Cathy Pettitt, Tennessee; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at West Newton Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
