Dr. Jerry W. Travelstead
Dr. Jerry W. Travelstead, D.D.S., 65, Greencastle, died Tuesday at Seton Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born in Terre Haute, he was the son of Homer Travelstead Sr. and Bess (Cooke) Travelstead.
He was raised in Terre Haute and graduated from Garfield High School in 1960 and from Indiana State University in 1963.
After enrolling in the Indiana University School of Dentistry, he graduated and became a dentist in 1967. He practiced dentistry in Brownsburg for many years and in Greencastle since 1999.
Besides belonging to many fraternal organizations, he was a member of Greencastle First Baptist Church, the Indiana Dental Association and the Ameri-can Dental Association.
During the years he gave his time, energy and resources to help those who could not afford dental treatment. During the last few years he spent many Fridays providing treatment to others at a free clinic (St. Ann Dental Services) in Terre Haute.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mabel Travelstead, Ruby Cartwright, Mary Sue McClara, Dorothy Keidel and Elizabeth Reynolds; brother Charles Travelstead Jr.; a niece and a nephew.
He is survived by sons Jerry Travelstead Jr. and wife Kandice, and John Travel-stead; brother Homer Travel-stead and wife Julie; stepchildren Jenny Williams, Bill Myers and Richard Reid; and several nieces, nephews, 15 great-nieces and nephews, and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon Saturday at First Baptist Church, Greencastle.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Friday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Speedway, and 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the church.
