6th-ranked DePauw battles 7th-ranked Messiah today

CANCUN, Mexico -- The 6th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team will play in a showdown of nationally-ranked programs this afternoon.

The Lady Tigers take on the 7th-ranked Messiah College Falcons in the second day of the Triple Crown Sports Caribbean Hoops Showdown. While results were not available at press time for either teams' Thursday contests in day one of the tournament, each team went to Mexico with just one loss.

The Lady Tigers (6-1) faced King's College (5-4) on Thursday. In their most recent action before the tournament, DePauw defeated Wittenberg 92-69 at home.

Cassie Pruzin, Gretchen Haehl and Emily Marshall each collected 14 points to lead the Tigers. Jenna Fernandez and Kalei Lowes were just behind with 13 and 11, respectively.

Fernandez, Pruzin and Haehl are each scoring double figures on the season, with Fernandez leading the way at 15.1.

Pruzin leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game. Haehl is averaging 5.6 assists.

Messiah (9-1) faced Concordia-Austin (3-2) on Thursday. In their last game, they defeated St. Mary's of Maryland 82-77 on the road.

Guard Nikki Lobach led the Falcons with 22 points against St. Mary's.

Lobach leads the Falcons in scoring on the season at 17.0 points per game.

Ashley Brooks leads the way with 6.0 rebounds per contest. Amy Reed averages 2.8 assists.

The Tigers and Falcons face off at 3:30 p.m. today in the Moon Palace Resort Convention Center in Cancun.
