Alva "Al" L. Lawless Jr.

Alva "Al" L. Lawless, 75, Greencastle, died Wednesday morning at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Alva L. and Florence Jane (Doty) Lawless Sr. He married Carolyn Sue Price on Nov. 27, 1957, and she survives.

He graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis in 1951 and attended Butler University.

He worked for Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis for 38 years before retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Hannah Street Baptist Church and was a Boy Scout and 4-H leader and a little league basketball coach.

Additional survivors include three sons, David Lawless, Tim Lawless and his wife Leanne and Joe Lawless and his wife Karla, all of Greencastle; two sisters, Donna Ferch, Lebanon, and Shirley Elder, of Virginia; a brother, Bill Lawless, Noblesville; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
