Eagle Holiday Sports Festival is this week

The annual "Eagle Holiday Sports Festival" will take place this weekend at South Putnam High School. This event will be Friday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 29. The festival will feature every varsity and reserve winter high school team.

The festival begins at 9 a.m. Friday with the Eagle Super Six-way, a six-team wrestling invitational including teams from Blue River Valley, Cloverdale, Fountain Central, Charlestown, South Putnam and Turkey Run.

The swim team gets into the act at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with the South Putnam Relays, a coed-relay swim invitational. Cascade, West Vigo and Speedway are joining the Eagle swimmers for this fun meet. Each swim team will field two teams in each of the 15 relays (including diving) in this meet.

The varsity boys' basketball team hosts the Eagle Holiday Classic beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Cascade will play Clay City in game one on Friday with South Putnam hosting North Vermillion in game two. The consolation game and final game of the varsity will be played on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.

The JV boys' basketball tourney will be Friday at Central Elementary. The Eagles' JV will play North Vermillion at 9:30 a.m. with Cascade and Clay City squaring off at 10:45 a.m. The consolation and final games will follow.

The varsity and junior varsity girls fly into action on Saturday morning when the Eagle Holiday Girls' Basketball Tourney takes place. The varsity tourney takes place at South Putnam High School while the JV tourney is hosted at Central Elementary.

In varsity action, South Putnam will host North Vermillion in the first game Saturday morning followed by Clay City playing against Shakamak. The varsity consolation game and final game will all be played Saturday afternoon.

On the JV girls' side, Shakamak takes on Clay City at 9:30 a.m., with the Eagle JV hosting North Vermillion at 10:45 a.m. The winners will play a half hour after the conclusion of game two.

Although Eagle Sports Passes are not accepted for tournament play, fans will be able to gain admission to multiple events. Friday morning's $4 ticket will allow fans into the swim meet, the wrestling meet, or the JV boys' basketball tourney. The girls' tourney $5 ticket will allow fans into either Central Elementary for the JV games, SPHS for the varsity games, or both.

The varsity boys' basketball tickets will be $5 per night.
