Born in Ellettsville, he was the son of Charles Emmett Cooper and Elsie J. (Jackson) Cooper.
He was a graduate of Cloverdale High School and Purdue University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He was a retired forestry ranger at the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation in New Mexico.
Survivors include a sister, Charlotte Cooper, Greenville, Miss.; two brothers, Thomas Cooper and wife Sue, Stoneville, Miss., and Charles Andrew "Andy" Cooper, Terre Haute.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J. William Cooper.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. John Nees officiating. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.
Visitation is 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
