Carl L. "Wimpy" Sutherlin

Carl L. "Wimpy" Sutherlin, 78, Cloverdale, died Thursday at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born in Cloverdale, he was the son of Emery Rolland Sutherlin and Flossie Jane (Cox) Sutherlin. He married Mary L. (Carrico) Sutherlin on Feb. 26, 1960, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2000.

He worked in signal maintenance for the Monon and CSX railroad companies. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Ruth and husband Lloyd, Carol Warren and Helen Guins and husband Alan, all of Baton Rouge, La.; three sons, John Pruitt and wife Martha, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., Tom Pruitt and wife Sandy and Harry Pruitt and wife Deanna, all of Greencastle; two sisters, Flossie Fern Whitley, Roachdale, and Florence Ellen Strange, Harmony; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janice Jane Weimer, sisters Guila Pearl Jackson and Ruth Marie Sutherlin, brother Rolland Wayne Sutherlin, four grandchildren and a son-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. John Nees officiating. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
