Putnam County Jail

Four people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Corey Len Duff, 30, Greencastle, was booked in at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday for invasion of privacy. He was arrested by Greencastle Officer Matt Huffman.

* James Blankenship, 23, Greencastle, was booked in at 10:03 a.m. Wednesday on a petition to revoke probation. He was arrested at PCJ.

* Jason Alan Hendricks, 21, Cloverdale, was booked in at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday on a parole hold. He was arrested at PCJ.

* Anthony Jerome Hicks, 39, Greencastle, was booked in at 11:12 a.m. Friday on an out-of-county warrant. He was arrested by Greencastle Chief Tom Sutherlin.

Sheriff's Dept.

Seven accidents were investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Dept.

* At 8:20 p.m. Dec. 20, a fire truck hit a deer on the way to an accident scene.

Reserve Deputy Mike Downing reported that Garrett Richardson, 50, 602 Gettysburg, Coate-sville, was driving a 2004 Freightliner fire truck registered to the Floyd Township Fire Dept. when a deer ran in front of the vehicle. Damage occurred to the front bumper area. No one was injured the the truck returned to station.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

* At 1:09 p.m. Monday, a pickup truck hit a deer on CR 400 West about a half-mile north of U.S. 40.

Downing reported that Louis Reitel Jr., 60, Indianapolis, was driving south when a deer ran in front of his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado and he was unable to avoid the animal.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 1:38 a.m. Dec. 23, a truck went off U.S. 231 near CR 1200 South.

Reserve Deputy Rick Cooper reported that Jordan B. Delp, 17, Martinsville, was driving north in a 1997 Ford F350 when he hydroplaned and lost control of the vehicle.

It left the road on the east side and hit a bridge abutment, flipped and struck a fence. Delp reported he was able to get out of the truck and got a ride home, and forgot to call and report the accident. Cooper reported he found no one at the scene and did a search of the area due to the damage to the truck and the likelihood of injuries.

Cooper was assisted at the scene by Deputy Craig Sibbitt.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 6:28 a.m. Monday, two people were injured on Interstate 70 at the 39-mile marker.

Cooper reported that Robert A. Boggs, 43, Chillicothe, Ohio, was driving a 2001 Jeep Wranger towing a trailer when the vehicle hit black ice and went out of control.

The vehicle jackknifed, striking a ditch and rolling over.

Boggs had bleeding to his head, and his passenger, Lorie E. Baker, Chillicothe, Ohio, had a leg injury. They were both out of the vehicle when Cooper arrived. One dog in the vehicle died while another dog was uninjured.

Cooper was assisted at the scene by Deputy Virgil Lanning, Cloverdale firefighters and Putnam County Operation Life.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

* At 6:30 a.m. Monday, a man was injured when his truck hit a utility pole on Ind. 42 near CR 1275 South.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Ronald D. Carter, 46, Poland, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger when he lost control of the eastbound truck due to ice on the road. The vehicle hit a fence and utility pole. Carter complained of arm pain.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 8 a.m. Monday, two vehicles collided on I-70 at the 33-mile marker.

Lt. Wallace reported that Marcey L. Moore, 38, Brazil, was driving east in a 2001 Ford Explorer when the vehicle went out of control and crossed the median. It entered the westbound lane where Jack E. Day, 51, Chardon, Ohio, ws drvigina 2001 Mack semi.

He avoided a head-on collision with the Ford, but a tire of his semi hit the front end of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 4:06 p.m. Wednesday, a car went off U.S. 40 near CR 450 West.

Deputy Ron Campbell reported that Anne R. Wilson, 21, 8314 W. CR 640 South, Reelsville, was driving east in a 2005 Saturn Ion when the front left wheel of her vehicle hit the median and it "sucked her in." Damage was estimated at $750-$1,000.

City police

Greencastle police issued two traffic tickets and investigated two accidents recently.

* Officer Chris Helmer ticketed Matthew Stevens, 31, Cloverdale at 3:41 p.m. Tuesday for speeding 45 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

* Helmer ticketed Kevin Pridemore, 44, Greencastle, for speeding 53 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

* At 3:21 p.m. Thursday, Officer Helmer investigated a two-vehicle accident on Ind. 240 at Capital Drive. He reported that Ronald Porter, 54, Roachdale, had stopped in westbound traffic when he moved forward but had to stop again.

His 1997 Buick was rear-ended by a 2003 Pontiac driven by Rebecca Bunten, 30, Coatesville. She said she saw traffic begin to move, but ran into the other vehicle when it stopped again.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 12:18 a.m. Friday, Officer Jeffrey Modlin investigated a parking lot accident at 215 Wood St.

He reported that Kenneth Stancombe, 53, Bedford, was backing up his 2003 Acura to leave the apartment complex and did not see a parked 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Modlin contacted Malibu owner Kelly McMahon, Greencastle, to advise her of the accident.

Damage was estimated at $750-$1,000.
