Omar Gale Cummings, 88, Cloverdale, died Saturday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Putnam County, he was the son of Lee Roy and Mamie Ice (Featherston) Cummings.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was owner of Cummings Machine Shop, Cloverdale. He attended Cloverdale Church of Christ and Cloverdale United Methodist Church, and Hurst-Collins American Legion Post 281.

He married Betty Ruth Rogers on Oct. 24, 1945. She died March 26, 1974.

Surviving are a daughter, Jackie Cradick and husband John, Kevil, Ky.; son Leroy "Buddy" Cummings, Cloverdale; sister Marie Hewitt, Indianapolis; brother Robert Cummings, Indianapolis; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Eva Coleen Cooper and Carlota Reed, and brother Frank Edsel Cummings.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. John Nees officiating.

Burial will be in Cloverdale Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.
