Putnam County Jail

Five people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Earl Charles Pumphrey, 46, Indianapolis, was booked in at 9:29 p.m. Friday for driving while intoxicated, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. He was arrested by Greencastle Officer Eric Vaughan.

* William Bruce McGathey, 44, Greencastle, was booked in at 11:12 p.m. Friday for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was arrested by Greencastle Officer Chris Helmer. He was released on his own recognizance at 4:36 p.m. Saturday.

* Seth M. Land, 20, Greencastle, was booked in at 11:29 p.m. Friday for public indecency, identity deception and disorderly conduct. He was arrested by Sgt. Tom Helmer. He was released on his own recognizance at 3:59 p.m. Saturday.

* Jose Luis Hernandez, 19, Indianapolis, was booked in at 5:36 a.m. Sunday for possession of alcohol by a minor. He was arrested by Deputy Dwight Simmons. He was released on his own recognizance at 9:46 a.m. Sunday.

* Jesus A. Sanchez, 23, Indianapolis, was booked in at 5:47 a.m. Sunday for driving while never licensed and driving while intoxicated. He was arrested by Simmons.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

Greencastle firefighters handled several runs recently.

On Saturday:

* At 2:08 a.m., firefighters went to 509 S. Locust St. for an activated alarm. They found no fire and returned to station at 2:19 a.m.

* At 8:04 a.m., firefighters went to 405 N. Jackson St. for a fuel spill. They cleaned up 30 gallons and returned to station at 10:02 a.m.

* At 10:49 a.m., firefighters went to 807 S. College Ave. for a detector activation. No problem was found and they returned to station at 11:14 a.m.

* At 3:21 p.m., firefighters went to Franklin Street near the Moose Lodge to help someone get a remote controlled helicopter out of a tree. They returned to station at 3:24 p.m.

* At 3:22 p.m., firefighters responded to a detector activation at 807 S. College. No problem was found. They returned to station at 3:42 p.m.

* At 10:02 p.m., firefighters went to 208 Olive St. for a detector activation. They found no problem and returned to station at 10:16 p.m.

On Sunday:

* At 1:44 a.m., firefighters were notified of an arcing power line on U.S. 231 south of Greencastle. Duke Energy responded to the scene to repair an insulator gone bad. GFD returned to station at 2:43 a.m.

* At 8:40 a.m., firefighters went to Bloomington Street Hall after someone sprayed water on a detector and it would not reset. Firefighters returned to station at 9:03 a.m.
