Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Dept. went on the following runs recently:

* At 8:40 a.m., Sunday, crews were dispatched to 225 S. Bloomington St. to investigate a malfunctioning detector. It was determined that water was causing the malfunction, and residents were awaiting maintenance to repair the detector. Crews were back in service at 9:03 a.m.

* At 7:32 p.m., Monday, crews were dispatched 3371 S. U.S. Hwy 231 to repair a burned receptacle. Repair was completed and crews were back in service at 7:57 p.m.

Sheriff's Dept.

Several accidents have been investigated recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6 p.m. Dec. 27, a car hit a deer on Ind. 240 East at CR 275 East.

Deputy Gregg Slover reported that Kitty York, Greencastle, was driving a 2003 Honda CRV westbound when a deer ran into the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

* At 7:30 a.m. Dec. 28, a car hit a deer on CR 800 East at CR 475 South.

Sgt. Don Pettit reported that Connie Clearwaters, Coatesville, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Montana northbound when the deer ran into the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $750-1,000.

* At 11:35 a.m. Dec. 29, a car struck a power pole on CR 325 North at CR 700 East.

Sgt. Pettit reported that Diana Black, Fillmore, was driving a 2001 Jeep, was westbound when she looked down to get something out of her purse. When she looked up, the car went off the road and struck a pole.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

* At 6:36 p.m. Thursday, a car hit a power pole on Ind. 243 at Campground Road, in Owen County.

Deputy Ron Campbell reported that Alesha Evens, Cloverdale, was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse northbound when she lost control on icy roads, slid off the road and struck a pole.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

* At 5:37 p.m. Thursday, a car hit a deer on U.S. 40 at U.S. 231.

Deputy Campbell reported that George Ingle, Rockville, was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota westbound when the deer struck the side of his vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $1,000-2,500.

* At 12:55 p.m. Sunday, a deer struck a car on U.S. 231 at CR 200 North.

Sgt. Pettit reported that Paul Gibbs, Monticello, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado southbound when a deer entered the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-5,000.

Putnam County Jail

One person was booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Ashley Tienna Johnson, 20, Cloverdale, was booked in at 12:30 p.m. Monday on a petition to revoke probation. She was arrested at PCJ.
