CLAYTON -- The Cloverdale boys' basketball team notched its fourth win of the season in dominating fashion, downing Cascade 62-40 Friday.

The Clovers won the opening tip and scored seven seconds into the game as Brandon Moon took the tip in for a layup and never looked back. Cloverdale jumped out to a seven-point lead early and continued to pressure the Cadets on the evening. The Clovers led 15-9 and things continued to improve from there.

Cloverdale senior Craig Blair floats above Cascade's Anthony Arthur during fourth-quarter action. Blair scored 17 points in the Clover victory.

The second quarter was much of the same for Cloverdale as it steadily built its lead throughout the quarter. The highlight of the quarter came at the 1:10 mark when Moon was fouled while knocking down one of his four first half three-pointers. With the four-point play, the Clovers extended the lead to 20 points at 35-15. Moon scored 17 first half points as the Clovers entered the break leading 37-17.

The Clovers attacked the Cadets on defense in the first half holding them to only five converted field goals before the break. CHS head coach Pat Rady commented after the game about the team defense his squad displayed and utilized to its advantage and how he believed it was essential to the win.

In the second half the Clovers showed a maturity that is vital for winning teams as they preserved the lead while continuing to control the Cadets.

Offensively, the Clovers slowed in the third quarter but still managed to outscore Cascade 9-7. Seven of the Clovers' nine points came at the charity stripe, where they shot 24-of-31 on the night.

Blair led the Clovers in the fourth quarter scoring 11 points, seven of which came at the line. Moon was Cloverdale's other scorer in the fourth. The Clovers scored 16 in the final quarter to cruise to the win.

Moon and Blair combined for 36 points on the night to pace the Clovers.

After the game a pleased Rady said that he believed this was the first time the team had played a solid 32 minutes of basketball all season. Even in their wins, he saw lulls in their game but Friday night was a different story.

He also acknowledged that he spoke to the team about not lingering in the past but believe in its future, and the Clovers took a step in that direction on Friday.

The Clovers (4-7, 1-2 WCC) will host Southmont at 7:30 p.m. today.
