Property tax refunds to be mailed soon

Property taxpayers could see rebate checks as soon as next week.

"We just got word today that the treasurer's office has completed their delinquency process," county auditor Stephanie Campbell said.

The promised rebates -- intended by the state to soften the increases seen in last year's property taxes -- will likely be smaller than originally thought. Some checks could be issued for just pennies, and even those who are not due a rebate will receive a check for "zero dollars."

The process now depends on software to get the rebate information translated to checks. If nothing "crops up" to delay the process, Campbell said, checks could start being issued within the next week.
