Chester "Chet" L. Beams

Chester "Chet" L. Beams, 84, Lafayette, died Tuesday at Rosewalk Village.

Born in Fincastle, he was the son of Russell and Marry (Alexander) Beams. He married Mildred "Faye" Walter on Oct. 1, 1946 in Ottawa, Kansas, and she survives.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and later worked as a special meterman for PSI for 33 years, before retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 11.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Sharon Triplett and companion Jim Hollingsworth, Macon, Mo.; Carol Middleton and husband Mike, Brookston; and Linda Nading and husband Tom, Oswego, Kansas; one son, Daryl Beams and companion Jill Weaver, Lafayette; four sisters, Florence Murphy, Georgia Gray, Rosey Hoskins and Patty Turner and husband Ron, all of Greencastle; two brothers, William "Bill" Beams and wife Dorothy and Richard Beams and wife Mary, all of Greencastle; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, with burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.

Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, at the funeral home.
