Arrests made in Jackson death case

I only wish Mr. Bookwalter's statement were true in more instances!

"Every parent, adult and student in Putnam County needs to know that if you give any child prescription drugs or alcohol you will be charged, arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law," Bookwalter said.

Too many of our kids prefer to protect the adults who engage in these activities so they have a place to go and party. It's going on all over the county and it seems the same individuals are getting away with this over and over and over again.

I believe that everyone involved needs to be punished for this selfish act. If they are not punished they will do it again and over again. I hope that every parent that has been involved in this selfish act understands that they need to let their children take on the responsibility of being involved with the death of this young man, that they can NEVER replace. If you bail them out of trouble they will NEVER learn from their mistakes. Also, keep in mind that every teenager knows from right and wrong and they do not have to be part of these types of situations. They can always so NO....But most of the problem is that the parents are to blame because most of them have raised their children to party because they party. It is time to grow up parents! Look what you are doing to your children..........Children are very precious and you have forgotten that.....

I would call on the prosecutor and the judge to make no deals, extend no leniency in this case. Please send out a strong message to our community. Please no slaps on the wrist this time!

Parents hold parties all over Putnam County and supply the alcohol for the parties for their underage children. Police need to start going to these parties and arresting these parents. Parents need to know that they will be held accountable for corrupting not only their own children, but other peoples kids also!

There are people in the world that either A) don't know what they are doing is wrong because noone ever told them it was wrong, or

B) just plainly don't really care what they are doing is wrong.

Teach your kids to do the right thing. It's very easy to pass the blame onto someone else but make sure YOU are doing the right thing.

We'll see what happens. I do believe there are parents out there having parties and supplying their kids with the alcohol and they are beyond ignorant to me!!! Yes, someone needs to STOP it as these idiots are too blind to see what is happening to these kids. It's really frustrating that this particular case involves high school students and all the way up to 50 years old! ALL because of a bunch of partying and see what happens when you're irresponsible? Was it really worth it? For any of you involved or who were even close enough to have been interviewed... Was it really worth it? Will you do it again? And those of you parents that think you're cool for having these parties for your kids, maybe you'd better think again. One of those kids could die at YOUR party. Are you prepared to handle that?

It's almost unreal. A friend and I were just talking today at lunch wondering why and how something like this could happen to a town that no one used to know anything about. Now look what we've become. Dietrich had such a big impact on me just in the short time that I knew him. I wish we could have spent more time together cracking jokes and laughing all through lunch, but thanks to the stupid mistakes our generation is making, I won't be able to. Life is something you must take advantage of, don't just throw it away by having a couple hours of fun. It is a tragedy, believe me...but right now let's be happy for him that he is in a better place, and just hope that he gets the justice that he deserves. I know I'm not going to change everyone's perspective, but maybe, just maybe someone will get to the bottom of this comment and realize that it's just not worth it.

All I can say is "what kind of degenerate people are these?!!"

First of all, I would like to state...who are any of you people to trash these people and the families involved already?! Oh, yeah, it's guilty until proven innocent here in GC because no one has anything better to do around here. I happen to know one of these families quite well, and I am here to tell you, they work their tails off, believe in the lord, and are all round good people. I love how everyone is taking it upon themselves to call these men scum...this shows lack of education and pure stupidity. Oh yeah...let's make an example out of this...why, oh yeah...elections are coming...this will win someone some votes. The greatest idols in the world sometimes step off track, but does that make them scum, or people that deserve to be locked up for several years?? Why don't we focus on something for a minute...the person who was prescribed the pills in the first place. None of this would have happened if he did not sell them. The fact that he was selling them shows he didn't need them in the first place. Now let's focus on another issue...the boys, we will not call them friends, that left him in his condition, instead of calling the authorities. Maybe we should set an example with them, instead of the middle man. Maybe we should punish them in such a way that will make other kids realize that getting help in a situation like this, not only will save lives, but also lead to less punishment for those involved. The fact that they left him to steer from getting in trouble themselves makes me sick. For some reason, it's all being focused on the middle man...why throw the book at him?? No one can bring back the much loved Dietrich, but Scottie got tied as the middle man, made a horrible mistake, but is also the type of person to learn from his mistakes. So, to all those who think they know the story, and make it their place to put in their two cents, I suggest they start realizing that maybe they should keep their mouths shut...the families are already going through enough!! Thankyou and please...keep your mouths shut!!

i've known scottie since i was in 8th grade. my freshman year he was a senior. i specifically remember walking down the sidewalk with some friends when he drove by in his mustang asking if any of us wanted to go on a roadie and smoke pot....

i was 15 then....... i'm 21 now...... just goes to show that some things never change.

not sure why anyone would want to take his defense. all the years of him making bad decisions and not getting busted . karma is one heck of a deal.

intellect911 sounds like he's a friend of the accused. Remember intellect911, the police have been working on this case for a month. These men arrested weren't just random citizens. The arrests were results of investigations. You ask "who are we to trash these people"? We are the outraged public, that's who we are! We would have discust and insults for anyone who has been arrested for this tragedy! A young life has been lost, the accused are still breathing, eating and sleeping. We WILL focus on who GAVE this boy the drugs, and if you don't like it then get in line and people will probably trash you too. This has NOTHING to do with elections or celebrities and EVERYTHING to do with the middleman who poisoned this young boy.

I just want to say that calling scootie hoover a middleman is an understatement. A middleman might meet a buyer, make the transaction and go home. Scoootie Hoover gave him and MANY other GHS students and

MANY adults in GC pills. Can you honestly act like the man that was prescribed those pills is the 1st and ONLY person he EVER got pills from?!? HE IS a WELL KNOWN DRUG DEALER!! He saw that D was OD'ing at his(Hoovers) home! Just because his last breaths were at his home doesn't mean that he was FINE when he left Hoover's home! everyone that saw Dietrich in that state knew what was happening to him because they are ALL known drug users. Let's not act like the accused are the victims here.

I simply can't believe that not 1, not 2, not 3 people, but many people simply let this 17 year old just die!! How could they stand there and watch him suffer like that and not do anything. It is unimaginable. The sorry, cowardness of all of these adults and fellow students. For hours Dietrich was struggling to live and breath, throwing up, in and out of conscientious and these degenerates were driving around buying cigarettes, just gallivanting around. I can't describe my shock!

I dont understand why Greencastle is made out to be such a bad school. People say that there is drug dealing going on in the hallway, and the teachers are just blind and dont realize it, its not true so instead of bashing on our school maybe people should stop and think about what really happened that night, who really gave D the pill, what really happened? The only "kids" that know the truth dont have enough respect to tell. Its pathetic how selfish some people are, that they wont even respect D's family enough to explain.

I wouldnt say Greencastle is a bad school, but parents or students who say its only a select few who use need to wake up. When I was going through the High School I knew of atleast half the student body who were using. Was I one of them.. sadly yes I was, luckily I was caught....moved out of the town and have become a better person. I dont have a answer of how to control this problem but wish I did, I have sibblings still to go through the school. Kids need to get out of that town more often and see what the world has to offer...if not they will be sucked into the world of drugs,booz, and low income jobs. Blame the schools...blame the dealers..the kids ...the parents ...pointing fingers hasnt seem to do much since I left the town, its sad to see that a death had to open people eyes.

This is a most tragic thing--for a life to be lost and i will pray for everyone involved!!!But every entry that i have read and every statement made seems to not mention the responsibility of the peron who put these drugs in his own body, by his own will --no one shoved these drugs down this young man's throat!!!Where is his own responsibility in taking his own life?????

He was almost 18 yrs old--not being babysat by a parent/guardian--and not uncapable mentally to make his decisions....where is his responsibility!!Everyone wants to blame someone else!!!

This is sooo sad! A kid lost his life because of one bad choice he made. He doesn't get a chance to do a "do over." I hope that any student that reads this will learn from this poor child's death. Don't let this boy's death be a waste! Parents and adults, what are you thinking?? Do you know where your kids are and what they are doing?

Does Greencastle have problems? YES. Can we solve them all? NO. Remember the schools are the last place that gets information. It sounds like all these "accusing" people making comments, had a lot of information for a long time that was NEVER reported. Now you want the school to fix it? Remember there are a lot of students in every school, in every town who make GOOD decisions and the RIGHT choices every day!

Even after this tragedy, New Years alcohol parties were allegedly hosted by local parents. The pictures were posted on My Space/Face Book. Allegedly, a city employee and his wife, too.

TinaS, you are correct when you stated "too many of our kids prefer to protect the adults who engage in these activites". It appears that is why this couple may be free of prosecution. My friend is beside herself as she has attempted to bring light to this situation.

To all the parents reading these blogs and saying "not my child" think again. Insist on seeing their myspace/facebook pages and their friends pages. Eye openers for the "not my child" believers.
