Greencastle struggles with Danville
The Greencastle wrestling team suffered through a tough match with Danville Thursday night, falling to the Warriors 41-21.
The Tiger Cubs were actually ahead 18-6, having won three of the first four matches by forfeit.
After that, though, the Cubs did not pick up another win until the final match.
The one contested victory, though, was rather entertaining. Jesse Ford, who usually wrestles 171, was wrestling 189 Thursday. Trailing 3-1 entering the third period, he came roaring back to defeat Danville's Alex Ripberger 8-4.
"Jesse Ford usually wrestles 171, but we have a couple guys out tonight, so he wrestled up to 189. He wrestled well," GHS coach Matt McComish said.
"Other than that, we didn't wrestle real well," he continued. "We just have to get ready for sectional."
The Tiger Cubs who won by forfeit were Brian Winslow (112), Michael York (119) and Dylan Harrison (215).
The Tiger Cubs now have more than a week's layoff before they host sectional. Coming off a tough defeat and dealing with some injuries, McComish knows his team has a lot of progress to make in the next week.
"Looking toward sectional, we have to get some people healthy. We have a lot of areas to improve on. We have a lot to work on next week," the coach concluded.
Greencastle hosts sectional at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
