DePauw runs away from Hendrix in second half

DePauw used a 14-0 run early in the second half to pull away from visiting Hendrix on the way to an 81-53 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory.

DePauw improved to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in the SCAC, while the Warriors dropped to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Hendrix led most of the first half with as much as a seven-point advantage on Ben Warner's three with 10:47 remaining to make it 17-10. The Tigers regained the lead late in the half and took a 35-32 margin into the break.

DePauw still held a 41-36 lead before Mike Moore hit a layup and Brian Oilar nailed a three to push the lead to double figures. Moore hit a free throw before Tony James scored on a layup and Moore and James buried threes to make it 57-38 with 10:08 remaining. Hendrix got no closer than 17 the rest of the way and the Tigers led by as many as 30.

Moore paced the Tigers with 28 points as he hit 10-of-12 field goals including 5-of-7 three-pointers. Oilar and Stephen Schott each finished with 13, while James added 10. Schott grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double as DePauw held a 41-24 edge on the boards.

King led Hendrix with 14 points and Michael Bertrand grabbed five rebounds.

The Tigers shot 58.8 percent for the game and held the Warriors to 36.2 percent.

DePauw hosts Millsaps on Sunday at 3 p.m. The 18th-ranked Majors lost at Centre tonight by a 90-80 score in overtime.
