GHS picks up OT win

Monday, January 28, 2008

LIZTON -- The Greencastle boys' basketball team picked up its third consecutive win Saturday night with a come-from-behind, 62-58 overtime win at Tri-West.

After regulation concluded, the big key to the win was the Tiger Cubs' (10-5, 5-0 WCC) ability to convert their free throw attempts. They were 26-of-35 from the charity stripe on the night, but were an outstanding 14-of-14 in the extra session.

A Brennan Burks three was the only GHS field goal in overtime.

The first half was tough for the Cubs, though, as a seven-point second quarter left them with just 18 at the break. They trailed Tri-West 26-18.

In the third quarter, they held the Bruins to eight points and cut the lead to 34-32 entering the fourth.

The Cubs had to get nine points from the stripe in the fourth to even get to overtime.

Kendall Faust continued a recent hot streak, leading the Tiger Cubs with 17 points. Burks was next with 13. Ashton Marshall was also in double figures, totaling 11.

Justin Bartrum and Austin Miller scored nine and eight points, respectively.

Tri-West (5-9, 1-3 Sagamore) tried to counter the balanced GHS attack with 24 from Randall Lowe and 22 from Sam Groth. No other Bruin managed more than five points.

GHS also took care of the ball, turning it over just six times.

The Tiger Cubs' attention now turns back to conference action, when they host Monrovia at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Both are 5-0 in the WCC, so the winner takes the title.
