Putnam County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Robert B. Springsteen, 63, Cloverdale was booked into PCJ. Greencastle Police Officer Jeff Modlin arrested Springsteen on charges of driving while intoxicated and public intoxication. Bail was set for $800.

* At 5:12 a.m. Friday, Ashley R. Warren, 23, Lake City, Fla. was arrested at PCJ on a warrant for non-support of child and a writ for contempt of court failure to appear.

* At 7:06 a.m. Friday, Ethan Allen Wood, 18, Greencastle was booked into PCJ. Greencastle Police Officer Eric Vaughn arrested Woods on charges unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and theft.

* At 7:19 a.m. Friday, Leland Dale Buechler, 19, Greencastle was booked into PCJ. GPD Officer Eric Vaughn arrested Buechler on charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and theft.

* At 8:41 a.m. Friday, Logan Campbell, 19, Greencastle was booked into PCJ. GPD Officer Eric Vaughn arrested Campbell on charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and theft.

* At 9:11 a.m. Friday, Hank Wieshaupt, 19, Greencastle was booked into PCJ. GPD Officer Eric Vaughn arrested Wieshaupt on charges of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and theft.

Sheriff's Dept.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department responded to several accidents recently.

* At 5:50 a.m., Jan. 23, Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt. Donnie Pettit responded to a collision at the 30- mile marker on 1-70, near the Cloverdale exit.

Raymond Roswell, 72, Frankfort, Ill. told the investigating officer that he was westbound on I-70 in a FRGT 2006 Columbia CC when another vehicle, driven by Keyang Liu, 47, Diamond Bar, Cal., approached from behind at a high rate of speed. Roswell reported that Liu, driving a 2005 Columbia CC, veered into the emergency lane to avoid rear ending him, but struck the rear tire area of Roswell's truck. A police report indicates that Roswell had made a U-turn onto I-70 just prior to the collision. Damage was estimated at $25,000-50,000.

* At 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Donnie Pettit responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Railroad Street and Main Street in Bainbridge.

Sheryl Berry, 51, Roachdale, told the investigating officer she was turning south onto Railroad street when she lost control of her vehicle due to snow on the roadway. Berry's 2004 Pontiac Grand AM slid into a 1992 Jeep Comanche driven by Franklin Branham, 28, Bainbridge that was stopped at the intersection. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $1,001-2,500.

* At 1:05 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Donnie Pettit responded to a single vehicle accident on U.S. 40 East near the intersection of County Road 850 East.

Bret Pafford, 48, Bloomington told the investigating officer that he lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado due to snow and ice on the roadway. Pafford veered off of the south side of the road into a ditch and his vehicle rolled over and rested on its top. The driver complained of neck pain after the accident. Damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

Four runs were handled recently by Greencastle firefighters.

* At 8:12 a.m. Friday, firefighters were summoned to 1019 Ave. F to assist with Operation Life. They returned to the station at 8:39 a.m.

* At 9:31 a.m. Friday, firefighters were called to 1 Terra Place and were disregarded en route. They returned to the station at 9:31 a.m.

* At 9:33 a.m. Friday, firefighters were summoned to 3876 S. CR 125 E. to assist with Operation Life. They returned to the station at 10:08 a.m.

* At 10:48 a.m. Friday, firefighters were called to 307 Shadowlawn and were disregarded en route. They returned to the station at 10:56 a.m.
