Coroner rules man died of natural causes
The Putnam County Coroner's office says a man found dead in his Greencastle apartment Monday died of natural causes.
Assistant Coroner Brian Hopkins told the BannerGraphic Tuesday that family members of 62-year-old Joseph R. Garceau became concerned when they didn't hear from him. When they went to his residence on Illinois Street Monday morning, they discovered he had died.
As a matter of routine procedure, Hopkins was called to evaluate the body.
"Any time a body is found, the coroner is called," he said.
After examining the scene, Hopkins ruled Garceau's death as natural. He said the man may have had a previous medical condition and that it could have been a factor in his death.
The body was not going to undergo an autopsy.
