Tara Jean "T.J" Finkbiner

Tara Jean "T.J." Finkbiner, 59, formerly of Greencastle, died Saturday at the Ruth Lily Hospice at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Wayne and Retha (Matkins) Pitts, and grew up in the Berry Street neighborhood.

She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1966, where she met Bruce Finkbiner, her husband for 37 years. He died in 2004.

After her marriage, Tara lived in Paintsville and also near Madisonville, Ky. They later resided in Sullivan and Graysville. She returned to Greencastle in 2007. She helped establish the Rural Community Schools, a charter school in Graysville, and was a member of the quilting club Happy Hoopers.

Surviving are three daughters, Nicole Finkbiner, Anderson, Chera Steimel and husband Steve, Martinsville, and Jen Finkbiner, San Antonio, Texas; a son, Boone Finkbiner and wife, Tanya, Wingate; a sister, Luwayne Pingleton and husband, Ron of Madisonville, Ky., and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services are scheduled at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Friday
