Jane Hoeppner to speak at United Way event

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Jane Hoeppner will address the community for the United Way of Putnam County's Annual Meeting and Dinner on Saturday, March 15.

The United Way, along with its sponsor DePauw University, will host the annual event at Windy Hill Country Club.

The annual meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by dinner. The evening will conclude with remarks from Jane Hoeppner, wife of the late Terry Hoeppner, former head football coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.

"Mrs. Hep," as she is fondly known, has served as an inspiration to Indiana football players, coaches, and the entire Hoosier Nation since the passing of Coach Hep in June 2007. For a program facing insurmountable sadness, she has been the rock behind what turned out to be the best season for IU Football in over a decade.

She is actively engaged in assisting the fundraising efforts of the "For the Glory of Old IU" Capital Campaign for IU Athletics. She is a member of the campaign's Steering Committee and is particularly interested in seeing the North End Zone Facility at Memorial Stadium, one of Coach Hep's dreams, become a reality.

In recent months, Mrs. Hep has accompanied Terry Hutchens, writer for the Indianapolis Star, to signing events for his book, "Hep Remembered: Memories of Terry Hoeppner from Those Who Knew Him Best."

Anyone interested in attending the event or wanting more information about the United Way of Putnam County should contact Cathryn Ensley at The United Way of Putnam County, 2 S. Jackson St., P.O. Box 365, Greencastle, IN 46135, or call 653-5638 or e-mail unitedway@airhop.com.

Tickets for the event are $30.
