The dog, known as "Clussexx in Overdrive," or more simply by his friends as "Carlton," walked away with honors in the Clumber Spaniel division.
According to the club's official website, Clumber Spaniels originated as a breed in 18th Century England when the Duke of Newcastle developed them at his estate, Clumber Park, in Nottingham.
Originally, their job was to walk in a line with other spaniels, flushing game for their masters. Clumber coloring is white with either lemon or orange spots.
Carlton's owner, Jamie Hubbard of Bloomington, is employed at Greencastle Veterinary Clinic.
He and Carlton don't see each other often these days because Carlton has competed in as many as 15 shows a month in order to qualify for Westminster.
He usually travels in the company of a professional handler, but Jamie went to New York with him and was ringside cheering when Carlton won Best of Breed.
