Wanted: amateur photographers

March 14 is the deadline for the 2008 Amateur Photo Contest, sponsored by the Putnam County Extension Office.

Winners will be announced the following morning at 9 a.m.

The contest is open to all amateur photographers. The subject matter must be relevant to the Lawn and Garden theme, and must have been taken within the past 12 months.

Three entries may be submitted in either the same, or separate classes. Entries must be mounted, matted, and covered with plastic. The mounting must be between 5 inches and 7 inches and no larger than 16 inches by 20 inches with the identification label on the upper area of the back of the mounting. Photos in frames or under glass will not be accepted.

There are four categories that photographs can enter: Color prints can go into the "Wonders of Nature" group that consists of scenic photos, gardens, and landscapes, or the "Friends in the Garden" category that must include people or pets as the focus of the picture.

Photographer must have a signed model release with people or persons in the photo. The other two groups are the same as above in black and white prints.

The entries will stay on display until two hours prior to the conclusion of the lawn and garden show.

Judges are looking at the impact, center of interest, composition, technique, print quality, presentation, and if it creates a feeling or emotion. Awards are monetary in nature and range from $25 to $10.

  • Is the monetary prize range correct? $25-$10??? Shouldn't this be $25-$100? Does anyone know?
