Monday, March 3, 2008

Tri-West edged out Covenant Christian 50-49 by limiting their big man Andrew Smith to seven points at the South Putnam Sectional 46 on Saturday.

The Bruins took a 33-19 lead into the half after scoring 24 points in the second quarter. After dominating the Warriors during the first half, Tri-West limped through the final two quarters scoring just 17 points in the second half.

Covenant Christian returned to form in the second half and scored 19 in the third and 11 in the final quarter. But like the saying goes, it was too little too late.

Randall Lowe with 23 points and Sam Groth who added 14 led tri-West. Andrew Keck contributed eight points, while Caleb McVicker added three and Tyler Smith two.

Derek Miles was the only player to break into double figures for the Warriors as he scored 18 points. Seth Bawel chipped in eight points with Smith adding seven.

Tri-West will face Paoli at the Southridge Regional at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
