Otis Odell "Odey" Wood, 83, Greencastle, died Sunday after a long illness.

Born in Bainbridge, he was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Jarnigan) Wood.

A 1942 graduate of Bainbridge High School, he traveled to Los Angeles after graduation and was employed as a tool and die maker for Douglas Aircraft Corp, making parts for the secret Nordic Bomb Site during World War II. Upon his return to Indiana, he pursued a career in the trucking industry, retiring from Clairmont Transfer Co. in 1984. He received many awards for his accident-free driving of 35 years. After retirement, he and his wife wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He was a long-time member of Teamsters Union 135.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorthea "Dottie" Bumgardner Wood; children Steven O. Wood and wife Roxanna, Franklin, Robert K. Wood and wife Kay, Franklin; Colette Remsen and husband Scott, Westfield, Deborah Jo "Jody" Huntwood, Georgetown, Maine, and Susan Hunt and friend Tim Boswell, Osage Beach, Mo.; siblings Albert Wood, Alamo, Texas, Geraldine Goss, Greencastle, Norman Wood and wife Anna, Greencastle, and Imogene Wood, Greencastle; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie Knudson.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday a Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
