Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Raymond and Lillian Bunch Lakin.
He retired in 1985 after 37 years as a supervisor and shift foreman at Anchor Glass in Indianapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Hopper, Indianapolis; four sons, Alan Lakin of Florida, Terry, Michael, and Timothy Lakin, all of Indianapolis; three sisters, Ruth Booer, Spencer, Florence Helm, Carmel, and Mabel Dillon, Amo.
He was preceded in death by two, sons Doug and James Lakin Jr.; four sisters, Zenal Darling, Ester Kraft, Imogene Bell and Dora Marie Peepers; and one brother, Elmer Lakin.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Russellville Cemetery with Pastor Dave Clayton officiating.
Visitation is noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, Roachdale.
