Delta Theta Tau show bringing fashion back to Putnam County

Sorority spokeswoman Tina Williamson told the BannerGraphic, "There has not been a ladies fashion show in Putnam County for years."

Fashions will be shown by Ginger-N-Spice, a ladies dress shop in Avon with ties to Putnam County through owner Cleda Janke. The shop's owner bought the stock from Ann's on the Square dress shop when it closed several years ago.

"Ann shops with me now, and other ladies who have given up their shops in Brownsburg and Plainfield come here now," said Janke.

"Shopping at Ginger-N-Spice is a complete experience. We know our customers and we don't just sell them an article of clothing, we put together ensembles that include jewelry, hats and other accessories," adds Janke.

There are six models in the show who will each wear six outfits including all the accessories. Models are all member of Delta Theta Tau.

"The show starts with playwear like jeans and sweaters. It also includes daytime dresses, career suits, and evening wear with all the bling and glitz," said Janke.

The 76-year-old Janke has been in the dress business for over 32 years. She is still going strong.

"I really got into the dress business by accident. I was shopping in a store in Beech Grove and overheard a conversation between the owner and someone applying for a job. The woman didn't take the job but I did," claims Janke. "I opened their second shop six months later."

Janke is experienced in charity fashion show. She and her staff do dozens of shows all over the state. This is her 27th year doing a fashion show at Westside Gardens in Indianapolis.

"We do 16-106 charity shows a year," says Janke. That number includes mother and daughter banquets, shows at nursing and assisted care homes, churches and other organizations.

All proceeds from the Delta Theta Tau show will help fund the sorority's current projects which include Putnam County scholarships, Red Cross, Giving Tree, Food Pantry and Reality Fair. Monies also go to the summer enrichment program, Smokehouse at the Greencastle Fire Department and Johnson-Nichols Health Clinic.
