Large show of support for EggFest '08

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

To the editor:

Thanks to all the "good eggs" that helped make EggFest '08 nighttime egg hunt for teens, an eggs-tremely successful event.

Months of planning by the "good egg" partners, Friends of the Park Association of Putnam County, Inc., the Greencastle Park and Recreation Department and VOICE-Indiana Youth Speaking out Against Teen Tobacco Use- was rewarded by watching nearly 500 teens attend the fourth annual event.

Hunting eggs, by flashlight in the park after dark, might sound silly to some but not to our "good egg" corporate sponsors- Kroger, Teachers Credit Union, Putnam County Tobacco Prevention & Cessation, the Greencastle Kiwanis Club and Indiana Automotive Components- who so willingly jumped on board with their sponsorships to help provide the music, food and fun for the local teens.

Thanks also go to Avery Robinson, Greencastle Middle School 7th grader, who designed the EggFest web page, eggfest.googlepages.com

It was not just the 5,000 candy stuffed eggs, but the possibility finding a "Golden Egg" or one of the more than 500 other prizes donated by nearly 100 local and national companies, enticed most of the teen participants to come to Robe Ann Park to attend Friday night's egg hunting event.

Besides the great music, food and prized stuffed eggs, Friends of the Park reaches out to area teens at each year's EggFest event to provide a message. EggFest is a "smoke free event" providing community teens with a clear message that you can still have fun without the use of tobacco products.

The mission of the Friends of Park Association of Putnam County, Inc. is to provide healthy recreation opportunities and to promote the enjoyment of our community parks for all of Putnam County. If you are someone that understands that community parks, recreation, and programming are irreplaceable assets for all who live in Putnam County, please consider becoming a member of Friends of the Park.
