Town's surplus set aside for the Humane Society

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

The Cloverdale Town Council accepted a motion Tuesday night to donate a van to the Putnam County Humane Society.

The 1998 Dodge Ram utility van was earmarked to be in the upcoming auction.

But during the council's special meeting, Town Council President Don Sublett made a plea for the van to be donated.

"They take 14 animals at a time up to Indianapolis all the time to get spayed and neutered and have to rent a van which gets very expensive," Sublett said.

The van will be donated as-is but is said to be in very good condition with "great tires."

Meanwhile, the special meeting also introduced the council to Shanon McLeod, an independent certified grant writer. She runs "Priority Project Resources" out of Greensburg, Ind., a non-profit company to help communities and businesses with grant acquisition.

They must wait on the completion of an income study in the town before any further action with McLeod can go forward.

The Cloverdale Town Council will meet again at its regularly scheduled time, at 7 p.m. April 8.

Giving the van to the Humane Society is a nice idea. Maybe, they could have auctioned the van off and used the money to pay our police officers more money for putting their lives on the line every time they go to work.

no fireworks? No battles? No parking lot incidents? Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
