DPU Strength and Conditioning Camp coming in June

Friday, April 11, 2008

The 2008 DePauw Strength and Conditioning Camp for middle and high school students will run June 2-27 on the DePauw campus.

This year, there will also be a pair of mini camps. The first will run June 2-13 and the second will be June 16-27.

The camp will teach basic and advanced principles of power, strength, agility and speed and is for middle school and high school-aged male and female athletes interested in developing their physical potential and ability through resistance training, speed-agility-quickness development, core stability, plyometric training, balance and dynamic flexibility.

The full camp is an intensive four-week program in which campers will train in a safe, monitored environment under individual attention from the DePauw University strength and conditioning staff.

The mini camp is a two-week program geared towards teaching simple, effective drills that do not require special equipment.

All programs will be individualized for each athlete's particular sport.

Campers will also receive a free Tiger Speed and Strength T-shirt.

Instruction will focus on proper technique and safety, injury prevention, warm-ups and cool-downs, exercise/drill selection and proper program manipulation to maximize results without exceeding adaptive capabilities

For middle school students, the camp will focus on the fundamentals of strength and conditioning. In high school camp, training will be more individualized to focus on specific skills needed for upcoming sports seasons.

Middle school camp will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 3:15-4:15 p.m. High school camp will be Monday-Friday 1:30-3 p.m.

Cost of the full camp is $175 for middle school and $225 for high school. Mini camp costs are $150 for high school and $125 for middle school.

Registration for the camp is now open. Brochures can be obtained at the Lilly Center Athletic Department office, the entrance to the Indoor Track and Tennis Center or online at depauw.edu/ath/ strength/camp2008.pdf
