GHS tennis earns sweep

The Greencastle girls' tennis team dominated the Edgewood Mustangs, 5-0 Monday night.

Greencastle No. singles player Kelsey Hennette continues to excel in the '08 season, defeating Hannah Douglas 6-1 and 6-0. Marta Torre won the No. 2 singles match against Samantha Lewis 6-1 and 6-2, while No. 3 single Emma Kaiser won in straight sets over Kaylie Porter 6-1 and 6-0.

In doubles, Savannah Provine and Carol Lafoe easily won their No. 1 doubles matchup against Megan Wright and Kayla Dombrosky 6-1 and 6-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Kristen Flint and Katie Collins defeated Stephanie Emmonds and Morgan Pruitt 6-4 and 6-4.

"I was happy to get a win, I was happy it wasn't raining but I'm still not sure we're playing in the right positions," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said. "We play at home again tonight and we'll see how the evening progresses."

The Greencastle junior varsity tied Edgewood 2-2.

Picking up wins for GHS in junior varsity action were Kate Babbington, and the team of Katie Farris and Chelsea Samuels.

Junior Varsity

Greencastle 2, Edgewood 2

Singles -- Babbington (GHS) def. Schlichping (E) 8-4; Parkes (E) def. Merrell (GHS) 8-5.

Doubles --Purtlebaugh/McNeely (E) def. Tucker/Elliott (GHS) 8-6; Farris/Samuels (GHS def. Campbell/Patton (E) 6-1, 6-4.

Next match -- Greencastle will host South Vermillion at 5 p.m. today.
