Eagles and Clovers battle on the track

SPENCER -- The South Putnam and Cloverdale track teams traveled to Owen Valley Monday night for a pair of triangular meets with the Patriots. The Eagle girls came out on top, while the boys finished second. The Clovers placed third in both meets.

Shelby Johnston led the way for the Eagles, winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump. Shannon Egold also had a good night, winning the 800 and 3,200.

Lauren Hanes won the 1,600 for South, while Brittany Cox won the discus. The Eagles' 3,200 relay team was also victorious.

For the Lady Clovers, Brynlea Mattocks won the high jump, while Elizabeth Cheatham won the shot put.

On the boys side, Nick Keefer had a big day for the Clovers, winning both hurdles events. The Clovers' 400 relay team was also victorious.

For the Eagles, the performance was especially strong in the field events, as Curtiss McKinney won the pole vault, Conor Frame won the shot put and Adam Masters took the discus.

Tyler Heavin won the 1,600 for South, while the 3,200 relay team also won.
