BAINBRIDGE -- North Putnam baseball swept a doubleheader with Bethesda Christian on Saturday, defeating the Patriots 16-6 in game one and 13-3 in game two.
Sophomore Brock Jones had a powerful day at the plate, going 4-for-8 with two home runs in the two games.
In game one, the Cougars (9-2, 5-1 WCC) took control early, scoring 14 runs in the first three innings. They added two in the sixth to win by the 10-run rule.
Freshman Tyler Watson picked up the win for North, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four batters in his six innings.
Shawn Diebold led the Cougar attack, going 3-for-4 with an home run and five RBI. Jones and Jordan Berry each picked up two hits, including home runs. Kyle Rooker and Kyle Alcorn each had two hits.
In game two, the Cougars jumped out quickly again, scoring six runs in the first inning. They put Bethesda away with seven more in the sixth.
David Church claimed the victory, striking out 10 Patriots in six innings. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.
Rooker was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple. Griffen Dahlstrom was 2-for-3 with a home run. Jones was 2-for-4 with a homer.
Coach Norm Fish was pleased with the day his Cougars had and with the way they have played of late. He hopes it will now continue against county rival South Putnam, as the two prepare for a WCC home-and-home series today and tomorrow. The Eagles sit atop the WCC at 6-0, while the Cougars are alone in second, just one game back.
"We're getting prepared for South Putnam," Fish said. "They're a good team. I hope momentum stays with us.
"South has a good pitching staff and we're looking forward to the challenge," the coach continued. "We're going to have to play our best to win."
The two squads square off today at 4:30 p.m. at South Putnam.
