Sheriff's Dept.

A number of accidents were reported recently by the Putnam County Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6:45 a.m. April 16, David Kingery, 46, Brazil, was traveling east on US 40 just west of SR 243 when a deer entered the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting it.

Damage was reported between $1,000 - $2,500.

* At 2 p.m. April 16, Debbie Rush, 48, Greencastle, was driving in the Wal-Mart parking lot when her groceries began to fall in her minivan.

When she tried to catch them her vehicle veered into and through a fire hydrant.

The hydrant was knocked off its foundation and the minivan struck a yellow post that was next to the hydrant.

The post was partially bent over and damage was done to the asphalt around the post.

Damage estimates are between $2,500 - $5,000.

* At 4:50 p.m. on April 18, Lindsey Hettich, 17, Cloverdale, said she was driving on CR 100 East near Cloverdale when she looked down and away from the road.

When she looked up, her vehicle had exited the travel portion of the roadway and into a ditch.

She advised she attempted to steer out of it but was unable to do so before she flipped her vehicle. It came to a rest on its top.

Damage was reported to be between $5,000 - $10,000.

* At 1 a.m. April 20, Kelly DeLavergne, 29, Greencastle, ran off CR 800 North near CR 200 East in Bainbridge.

Alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor.

Damage was reported at less that $1,000.

* At 8:25 a.m. April 21, Coralyn Newmanlowe, 21, Indianapolis, was traveling north on US 231 near US 40 when she apparently fell asleep.

She advised that she traveled into the southbound lane almost striking another vehicle.

She then swerved and lost control of her vehicle traveling off the east side of the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

Damage was reported between $1,000 - $2,500.
