GHS?tennis loses to Athenians

Friday, April 25, 2008

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Greencastle girls' tennis team lost a rain-shortened match to Crawfordsville Thursday, 4-0. Although the No. 1 singles match was not completed, the outcome of the team event was already determined, so a make-up match will be unnecessary.

The completed singles matches included a 6-0, 6-0 loss by Marta Torre at No. 2 and a 6-2, 6-4 loss by Kate Babington at No. 3.

"Kate Babington did a nice job of coming back and winning six games in her match," Lowe commented.

On the doubles side, the No. 1 team of Carol LaFoe and Savannah Provine lost 6-2, 6-1, while the No. 2 team of Kristen Flint and Emma Kaiser fell 6-4, 6-2.

Lowe said she was disappointed by her team's losses, particularly for the doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Kelsey Hennette lost the first set, 3-6, before winning the second, 6-1. She was leading 4-3 in third set when the match was called. It will not count on her record since it was incomplete.

For the JV, the doubles teams of Katie Collins and Bridget Tucker and Brittany Elliott and Katie Kean picked up victories.

The GHS varsity will be back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Northview Invitational.
