Fire returns to home

Friday, April 25, 2008
Fire returned a third time and destroyed this home on CR?200 South early Thursday morning.

The fire that failed to take the home of Robert Koenig, 1223 E. CR 200 South, on Wednesday returned a third time just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

When Greencastle Fire Department arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was started by smoldering from the two prior visits the fire department made Wednesday.

The house was a total loss. Assisting at the scene was Bainbridge Fire, Fillmore Fire, Cloverdale Township Fire and Madison Township Fire Departments. Greencastle was back on station at 5:51 a.m.

  • Why was this fire trying so hard to take this house. I do not understand. I am so sorry to hear this happened that is really a tragedy to lose your home.

  • Re-kindling is a bad word to fire departments. This is a story that GFD could do without.

  • I am sorry for the loss of your home. My thoughts and prayers are with you.As for the post by Xgamer....until you know the facts, why make such a rude comment about the GFD? It's not the fault of the department or the home owner that the fire rekindled. A rekindling can happen anytime, and not just because you or someone else thinks that if a fire would have been put out right the first time it wouldn't have kept happening.

  • churchmoose, what leads you to believe I was critical of GFD and their ability to put out a fire? Please re-read my post again (it's ok to move your lips while you read) and then ask someone who is on ANY fire department if they like it when a house re-kindles after they have put it out. Although this story is newsworthy, I am sure the Chief and members of the GFD would rather have a success story in print of their efforts. You should ask that question as well.

In addition, I never stated fault to anyone of this re-kindling, you, indirectly, on the other hand sure did. Perhaps you should offer an apology to GFD and the home owner for your comment. Nevermind apologizing to me, I forgive you already.
