Items needed to send to soldiers

Local troops are being helped out by the Danville based Military Support Group, but they need help with donations.

The Danville Christian Church has been sending care packages to servicemen and women for the past five years. Military personnel from Bainbridge, Cloverdale, Coatesville, Roachdale, Stilesville and Greencastle are included in their coverage.

Mary Haas, Bainbridge, co-chairman of the Military Support Group, said, "The purpose of this mission is to let these men and women know that we care about them and they are not forgotten."

Collection boxes have been placed at Midtown Florist in Cloverdale, Bainbridge BP Service Station, Allen's TV Sales and Service in Roachdale and Treasures on the Square in Greencastle. Items needed will be posted at these locations. However, donators are asked to give nothing in glass containers, water, chocolate or perishables.

Treasures on the Square also has T-shirts for sale with all proceeds going towards the postage of the packages.

"Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated to help defray postage," Haas said.

All monetary donations can be sent to the Danville Christian Church care of Military Support Group, 180 W Main St., Danville, IN, 46122.

This is not Haas' first venture into supporting the troops.

"During Desert Storm, we put together a group called M.A.S.H. which stood for Mothers Against Saddam Hussein," Haas joked.
