Golf tournament to benefit soldiers

A Florida Scramble golf tournament will be held on June 7, at the Deer Creek G.C. Sign in begins at 10:30 a.m., with tee times beginning at 1 p.m.

Top prizes will include $25,000 sponsored by Porter Paints for a hole-in-one on No. 16 and a $10,000 sponsored by Protrans International for a hole-in-one on No. 3. A putting contest features a $4,000 cash award sponsored by Cargo Services. There will be a $50 cash award for the five closest to the pin winners. Golfers with the longest drives will be awarded $100 cash prize and the winning team will be awarded the amount of $400.

Entry fee for the scramble is $75 per person, with an early fee of $65 if sent before May 10. Many door prizes will be given away and lunch will be served at noon.

All proceeds go to assisting the most seriously wounded servicemen and women, through he Veterans of Valor organization. Veterans of Valor was founded by USMC Sgt. Klay South of Greenwood, who himself was seriously injured after being shot in the face while serving in Iraq.
