Joseph E. Jackson, 83, Cloverdale, died Friday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Blanford, Ind., he was the son of Herman and Martha Cecil (McCauley) Jackson. He married Dorothy M. (Slicer) Jackson.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was an operator of heavy equipment. He was founder and minister of Golden Gate Baptist Church, Indianapolis and was a member of the V.F.W. in Greenfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Nora Routh, Cloverdale; a son, Joe Jackson, Brownsburg; two sisters, Blanche Gilbert, Blanford, and Nora Gilbert, Clinton; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter Mary Alice Jackson, sister Martha Roseann Moore, brothers Bill Jackson, Bob Jackson, Carl Jackson and Jim Jackson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Pastor Wes McClure and Bro. Joe Yeary officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Zionsville.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 12 at the funeral home.
