GHS grads finalists in win-a-wedding contest

Friday, May 16, 2008
Emily Lowe and Matt Queen, both 2005 Greencastle High School graduates, are one of four finalists couples in a win-a-wedding contest sponsored by a Bloomington radio station.

Emily Lowe is hoping history will repeat itself.

Lowe and her fiancé, Matt Queen -- both 2005 Greencastle High School graduates -- are one of four finalist couples in "The Greatest Love Story (N)ever Told," a contest sponsored by radio station B97, Bloomington.

Should they win the contest, their wedding will be paid for.

Which is déjà vu all over again for Lowe's mother and stepfather, Ruth and Eric Bernsee.

"Ruth and I were married on a cake float in the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade 10 years ago this May 23 after (Ruth) won a radio station contest at WZPL, Indianapolis," Bernsee said.

Lowe couldn't believe she and Queen made it to the finals of the contest.

"I'm so excited," she said. "We weren't expecting to be finalists, but we are. I'm really hoping we win."

Lowe and Queen had originally set their wedding date for May 23, 2009 ("forgetting it was my mom and stepdad's anniversary," Lowe said).

If they win the contest, however, they may need to change that date.

"There is a timeframe of November to March," Lowe said. "But if we win, they said we could talk about it."

Lowe said she is unsure where she and Queen will get married or hold their wedding reception, but that they will both likely either be in Greencastle or Bloomington.

"Nothing is set in stone," she said.

Lowe and Queen began dating when they were freshmen in high school.

"The story of our relationship, however, is filled with ups and downs, turns and straights and miles and miles of road," Lowe said in a story posted on B97's Web site.

The couple separated in April 2006. They were apart for three months.

In July 2006, Lowe received word that Queen had been in an automobile accident and was in a coma. Lowe immediately went to Queen's side.

She sat with him in the hospital for two weeks. Queen recovered ("with bars and screws in his back," Lowe said), and the couple became engaged in November 2006 on the beach at Gulf Shores, Ala.

Lowe, 21, is a junior at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. Queen, 20, is the son of Laura and Rick Sharp of Greencastle and Tony Queen of Salisbury, N.C.

"As I finish my junior year at IU and plan my last year in college, I am also planning my wedding, a day we have talked about for seven years, a dream that is finally coming true," Lowe said.

Voting for the contest ends Saturday. To cast a vote and read Lowe and Queen's story, visit www.wbwb.com

And the whold purpose to being on the site is for them to win money to help pay for their wedding not everybody is rich around this dump! so maybe you shouldn't shouldn't post comments like that!
