The Greencastle Summer Classical Music Festival continues this evening at 7:30 p.m. in Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church with "Soothing Songs for a Summer Evening" performed by DePauw School of Music faculty member soprano Barbara Paré and pianist John Clodfelter, joined by violinist Allison Edberg and cellist Eric Edberg.

The concert is free, with donations accepted. York Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Greencastle, has provided major support for the series.

Barbara Paré and John Clodfelter have been working together for five years. In July 2003 they attended a symposium of 19th-century German song at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton N.J. The symposium was built around master classes on the works of Schubert, Schumann and Wolf.

Paré and Clodfelter participated in daily master classes with renowned pianist and vocal coach J.J. Penna and mezzo-soprano Lindsay Christiansen. In July 2004 they returned to Princeton to study and perform the works of Wolf, Berg, Mahler, Strauss and Szymanowski.

Pare and Clodfelter have been described as having "a very special connection and chemistry" when performing together. Their dedication to the art song, particularly German lieder, is the center of their recitals.

Tonight's program includes works by Seymour Barab, Leonard Bernstein, Donald Waxman, and Andre Previn.

"It's a delightful program of some of the most accessible works by American composers," said Eric Edberg, the series director.
